Countdown to the 2008 Republican National Convention

August 26, 2008 · 1 Comment

In just one week Minnesota will host the 2008 Republican National Convention, welcoming more than 45,000 delegates, alternate delegates, members of the media, and other guests. It is the second time in history that Minnesota has hosted the convention – the first was in held in Minneapolis in 1892 where Republicans nominated Benjamin Harrison.

In the days leading up to and during the convention, we’ll post information and interesting links about the convention on this blog – and we hope that you’ll join in our conversation about this historic event happening in our state’s capital. Tell us, what do you remember about past conventions?

PS: If you’re a history buff, check out the resources and clips our friends at the Minnesota Historical Society, Minnesota Public Radio, and The Minnesota Independent have available: http://www.mnhs.org/library/tips/history_topics/137rnc.htm

I’m excited for the upcoming convention and interested to see what interesting factoids you’ll post here next week!

I personally haven’t paid much attention to past conventions and therefore don’t recall too much. I’m only in my twenties but this is the first time I’ve taken a serious interest in the days leading up to an election–this is an exciting time for our country.
